Catch up part II

 December - Pre-Christmas

Granddaughter's Dance Recital

December is always filled with activities and gatherings and of course, way too much fattening food. This year was no different!  Fortunately, not all events centered around eating.  Our granddaughter's dance recital was a non-eating event!  The girl's changed to a new dance school this fall and they are really enjoying working with their new teachers and having more opportunities for instruction and performance in their smaller classes.
As totally unbiased grandparents, we determined that Dorothy, Sareya, Violet and Ruby were the best and most beautiful dancers in the program!

Dorothy and Sareya were both so graceful in their ballet numbers!

Violet kind of stole the show when she flipped and twirled her ponytail in the dance/cheer number.

BYU vs the U

December 19, 2015
We gathered at Tricia's house for this event.  With graduates of both BYU and the U, there is always a lot of good natured competition in our family.
The menu featured nachos, chips and BYU mint brownies (yum - my personal favorite!).  There was also RED punch for the Ute fans.

All guests dressed in the colors of their favorite school - even the little ones wore blue and white or red.
Evie and Ruby love to be together and have a great time.

The boys also wore their colors.
Dex is always every one's favorite cousin (being the youngest really works out for him!).

As a BYU graduate and fan, I am not talking about who won or what the final score was!!

Making Cinnamon Rolls with Grandma

December 21, 2015
I wanted to do something fun with all of my grand kids that live in the area.  I considered making gingerbread houses but decided that with 14 kids that might get a little crazy and be more than I could handle.  So, I settled on making cinnamon rolls so that everyone could take home their own small pan of rolls.  With Kyra being allergic to dairy and eggs and Sareya needing dairy, egg and gluten free rolls, I made 3 different kinds of dough and 4 different kinds of frosting.  I invited all the mom's to come to help with this project.  I also decided to serve lunch to everyone before we began the roll making.

Lunch was hot dogs, chips, cheese ball, crackers and carrot sticks for the kids and vegetable beef soup for the adults.  You may see Alex in several of these photos - our designated photo bomber!

After the rolls were made and baking, the kids played Christmas Bingo.  I found the game online and had the cards printed and laminated.  They used beans to mark the boxes.  I had purchased some prizes from the dollar store.  Alex was our first winner, but miraculously (or by design?) everyone won a prize!!

It was a fun afternoon and an activity I may make a Christmas tradition!

We did however, really miss Jessica, Liam and Gigi!!!
I love this cute picture of them!

  1. What cute dancing grand daughters! Sorry you have Ute fans in the family ;)-that was a sad game for BYU fans but at least they made a comeback. I love your new cinnamon roll tradition with your grand kids. You have a house full but what fun memories for them!

  2. Talk about dancing dolls and I LOVE your idea of making cinnamon rolls with your girls and grandkids. I love seeing the cousins love each other so much. You and I didn't have any cousins our age growing up and I think that would have been such fun.
