Graduations and a Mission Farewell

With two graduating seniors this year, May and June were really busy months for us. I like to make a book about my grandchildren to give them as part of their graduation present.  With 2 books to make this year, I was scrambling to finish them in time.  I met my goal and the photo below shows the 2 books.

Kyra Lexi Mickelsen

Kyra's Seminary Graduation was Sunday, May 19th at 3:00 PM.
As firm believers in the Seminary Program, we are always delighted when our grand kids graduate from this most important part of their education!
Kyra is not only a beautiful girl, she is sweet and kind to others! She and Treygan have set good examples for their siblings.

Salem Hills High School Graduation

The following week on May 22nd, Kyra graduated from Salem Hills High School with High Honors. During her high school years, she earned a Phlebotomist certificate, her CNA certificate and has nearly 2 years worth of college credit. She also was a cheerleader her junior and senior year.  Kyra plans to go to Utah State University and earn her nursing degree.  We are so very proud of her and what she has accomplished and the worthy goals she has set for herself!

Hal took the photo below as Kyra was waiting for her name to be read to go forth to receive her diploma.
A happy graduate!
Kelly's parents are on the left in this photo as well as Kelly's younger sister - Crystal and her husband. Kyra is standing next to her boyfriend - Brenan (he will be going on a mission soon).  Kyra had a large part in Brenan's decision to serve.

Alex Jon Woidka

Alex's Seminary Graduation was the same Sunday as Kyra's - May 19th.  Fortunately Kyra's was at 3:00 PM and Alex's was at 6:oo PM so we could attend both.  Alex loved seminary and we are so pleased with the good example he set for his siblings!

Spanish Fork High School Graduation

Alex graduated 1 day after Kyra - May 23rd at 10:00 AM.  Both graduations were held at the UVU Activities Center(so we now know how to route so we can get around some of the traffic at these big events!
Alex graduated with Honors as well as earning a silver cord for his welding skills. He took 3 years of welding during high school and became a skilled welder.  He built a pedal trike and entered in the Nebo International Competitions, where he took 1st place in the Pedal Drift Trike Race and 3rd place in the Stock Drag Race.  Alex also used his welding talents when he served with his family at an orphanage in Mexico during Spring Break.

Alex's Mission Call and Farewell

Alex has planned to serve a mission for years. He put his mission papers in during the late winter of 2019.
He was so delighted when he received an email copy of his call while on Spring Break and helping in an orphanage in Mexico. He was called to the Equador Guayaquil North Mission. He is now at the MTC learning Spanish and enjoying the experience!
This photo was taken on the Sunday of his farewell.  He gave an excellent talk and we were very proud of him.
It was an extra special day as it was also Father's Day!
The following Wednesday, we gathered at the Brick Oven  restaurant for our last meal together before Alex entered the MTC.
It was a sad/happy day.  Hard to say goodbye but we know Alex will be a great missionary and help many people in Ecuador!
