Borsch and Bears!

This week we served Borsch to our Family Home Evening Group and to our Missionary District.
Altyn is a YSA from Turkmenistan.  She loves to cook and often wants me to teach her how to make my favorite recipes - so this week we made borsch together.  With lots of talking, chopping vegetables and of course help from Hal, we made a triple recipe.

Everyone seemed to like it and many wanted seconds!

District Meeting

On Wednesday we had District Meeting with the group of missionaries that are serving with us in the Tiergarten Ward.  This is transfer week so we have two new missionaries.  After our meeting, we served the missionaries - you guessed it- borsch for lunch!
I think it might have been better the second time.  They finished off the pot full!
It was fun to have Russian borsch while in Germany... perhaps in honor of the Sochi Olympics!

The bear hunt continues....

Snowflake Bear

Scenic Bear

I Love Berlin Bear

Apotheke Bear

Amway Bear (yes, Amway is in Berlin!)

American Embassy Bear - behind the glass - so not a very good picture!  She looks like the Statue of Liberty.

Ugly Bear - that is our name for this one because the paint is peeling and faded!
Our search continues and you will probably see more bears on future posts.

  1. What a wonderful bear hunt you are on! I love seeing all of the very different ones - they are works of art! And your borsch recipe is THE BEST! I just made it a couple weeks ago, and it is one of our favorite soups. How cool that you are teaching your cooking skills; you are an amazing cook, Patty! Speaking of Sochi, have you been able to watch any of the Olympics?

    1. We don't have a TV in our apartment so we haven't been able to watch the events but we have been following the medal count for each country on the internet and there are many posts on live feed on Facebook - some with clips of the events. We have many Russian friends that have been posting including one that is part of the group that prepares the ski runs and it is fun to see his posts with photos and his comments about his view of everything that's is happening there.

  2. How fun to have Borsch in Germany! We love it when Whitney cooks us Russian soup. She makes "schi" a lot. Not to be confused with "sochi" ;)
I love the bear hunt. You'll have to show them all to us when we're there!

  4. I just made borsch for Shonna's family last week. They loved it. I made a big double recipe and they froze half for when I'm not there. They all just loved it. It is so fun to see the bears. You'll have to do a "bear wall" when you come home of all your pictures . . . or make one of the downstairs bedrooms a "bear room". Shonna and Blake don't have a t.v. either, so I haven't seen much of the Olympics either.
